Batman Arkham Knight still holds up graphically. Recently built a new PC and have been installing random old games to either play through or test out with max settings (first time I played through a lot of these I had to make compromises with settings). Decided to boot up Batman Arkham Knight and, wow, this game is visually stunning.Starting with Origins, Batman Arkham series became darker, more mature, cruel and serious, as Batman games should be. Origins and Knight just have much more darker atmosphere than Asylum and City. I like all 4 games, but the last two are just incomparable because they are stylistically better, but it's just my IMO.

Asylum is just a really solid game. It’s the first so it played safe: basic story, fun map, nice puzzles and engaging combat. It’s fun, and while it isn’t the biggest and most explosive of the series, it’s atmoshpere is absolutely amazing. City has prolly the best story of the series, but most people really overhype it.

It’s most likely a case by case basis. Plus the full control of something like this rests more on WB than any company like Microsoft and Sony. The hand drawn profiles of all the villains, no matter how minor, really adds the sense that Rocksteady wanted to immerse the players in Batman’s world.
